BRIIDGE PROJECT SEASON II

Can you believe it’s been a whole year since the big debut of The Bridge Project? If you are new here, I work at a school for kids with language-based learning disabilities (LLD) in Manhattan and my second graders’ Social Studies curriculum revolves around studying Maps and New York City.

As a part of our 5 Boroughs unit, they learn about the bridges that connect New York City: Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queensboro, Triboro (RFK), Williamsburg, Verrazano Narrows, High and Alexander Hamilton, George Washington (and its little red light house!), and Kosciusko. The project-based learning aspect of this unit involves the students picking a bridge to build from scratch out of household materials of their choosing. Last year the class decided to build the Kosciusko Bridge and they did a fantastic job, lights and all.
